Who is she? I had never heard of her until last week’s sneak peek of the Today Show’s newly remodeled set.
Lydia Marks is the designer behind the updated setting of America’s favorite morning show.
Studio 1A is new, refreshed, youthful and a bit retro. Lydia freely used orange for the spacious curved sofa and backdrop walls. It’s evident 2012 Pantone color of the year, Tangerine Tango, is embraced. I believe orange was selected as a reflection of a morning sunrise like in the new Today Show logo.
Today Show Living Room
The floor, in hues of gray, tones down the orange. The area rug is in prism blocks which I am seeing as a trending pattern right now. I can imagine the rug being changed out as an easy way to keep up with the trending designs (Hint- you can do this in your home).
“I love it! I think it’s America’s new living room.” – Al Roker
Ah look at all those pillows! News talk show hosts need to be comfortable too.I love the mix of patterns, looks like there’s one to fit each host’s personal style.
Interesting use of the window frames in the background. They’re much more home-like than the large plate glass windows looking out over the Today Show plaza. The vertical slatted wall behind the windows resembles a Hunter Douglas Luminette or vertical blind.
Well done Today Show, Lydia Marks and the extensive team that pulled this new look together. There is so much positive energy on the new set. A new space brings new life to the iconic show.
